Henry Ruggs III is getting used to the feel of new jerseys. In the past two days he has had the honor of receiving a U.S. Army All-American jersey to be worn during the national game played in San Antonio’s Alamodome on January 7th. Today it was a jersey for the Alabama / Mississippi All-star game to be played at the Cramton Bowl on December 10th.
Mr. Alvin Briggs of the Alabama High School Athletic Association presented the jersey at a ceremony in the Lee High School Media Center. The presentation was attended by the Ruggs family as well as coaches and Henry’s fellow teammates.
Mr. Briggs congratulated Henry’s mother and father for their efforts in raising and inspiring Henry to become who he is. He made mention that Henry didn’t flinch during the North – South All-star basketball game when he was abandon by several selected teammates and for the most part carried the entire south squad on his back against a top notch north team. He ended the presentation with the promise that the Alabama All-star team expects to see his explosion on the field and a promise to get him the ball often.
For the Lee fami-LEE it will be exciting to see how Ruggs III stacks up against both Mississippi’s best and the nations best. It will be surprising if defensive backs across the country have anymore luck in shutting down Henry than local teams have had.
Once again, it is a great day to be on Ann Street.
