The Lee Generals traveled to the always tough to win in gym on the campus of the Selma High School Saints Tuesday evening and returned to Ann Street with a three game sweep. Coach Scott and the undefeated JV boys made very quick work of the Saints. Up eleven after the first quarter the impressive group continued to put the ball in the basket and ended up with a thirty plus point victory.
The Lady Generals continued to fight to find an identity throughout a difficult first half. Leading scorer Zippy Broughton was saddled with three quick fouls and sat almost the entire second quarter. What has become the norm, Broughton still tallied 30 points in three quarters of play. While on the bench the Lady Generals saw a nice lead slowly evaporate and took a three point deficit into the half. Coach Smith once again shuffle the deck inserting freshman Tamia Blair for defensive purposes and to protect Zippy on that end of the floor. Blair not only held her on but picked up a couple of steals to help the Lady Generals to a 54 – 45 victory. Ti’Erra Lee grabbed ten rebounds in the contest.
The boys varsity found a similar fate as the girls. They continually opened ten point advantages only to find the Saints clawing at the lead and cutting it to small single digits. In the end the Generals were able to hold on for a 62 – 58 victory and remain undefeated in the process.
All three teams will be back in action Thursday evening when they travel to Brew Tech for a three game match.
