Multiple Teams · Generals Keep on Rolling; Knock Off James Clemons and Show Park Crossing the Same Courtesy as a Few Months Ago

The Generals basketball team continues to roll along knocking off opponent after opponent as we reach a week or so before the “real” season starts, area play.  The Generals went to Hartselle, AL and knocked off James Clemons in exciting fashion as Henry Ruggs III and Lakeldrick Garner each had steals in the closing seconds resulting in dunks and John’Detrick Butler hit a foul shot to secure a five point victory.

Ruggs III was the only General in double figures with seventeen.  Ten other Generals added to the scoring column.  Demond Robinson added 11 rebounds and five blocks to help with the cause.

The Generals then headed to AUM and the Larry Chapman Tournament to face the Park Crossing Thunderbirds.  The T-birds were coming off of a victory they deemed impressive and by social media accounts our Generals were next in their sights.  While the T-birds could match the Generals in athletes the Generals first group proved to be too much for Park Crossing to handle.

What has been a luxury for Coach Johnson this year proved to be a sore spot Tuesday night.  Coach Johnson has had the luxury of continually going deep on his bench and the lead not only being maintained but more often than not increased.  As the first unit would build a double digit lead the second and third group would let it slip back to single digits time after time.  For one of the few time this year the Generals “first five”, if there is such, saw more action than normal.  The added minutes allowed John’Detrick Butler to drop 20 points on the Thunderbirds.  Demond Robinson posted a double-double with 14 points and 13 boards.  He also continued his blocking stats, swatting away shot after shot.  Lakeldrick Garner added 11 points and joined Ruggs III with some of his own “sky high” dunks.

As stated in an earlier article, we are afraid of the writer’s or announcer’s jinx, but the greatest competition thus far is that the combined boy’s teams; freshmen, junior varsity, and varsity has yet to be beat.  The freshmen can breath easy as their season is over.  The JV can enjoy an extended Christmas break.  Here’s hoping the varsity enters 2017 undefeated!

The Generals will be back in action Wednesday night at AUM at 7:00 when they face the Brew Tech Rams for the third time this season.  As many know it is always hard to beat a good team three times in one season.  Hopefully Coach Johnson will have his young men ready to make this match up their most dominant of the three.

Every season it a great season to be on Ann Street.

GO GENERALS!
