While Henry Ruggs III was the star of the show, Robert E. Lee High School is proud to announce the signing of players on National Signing Day. All of these student-athletes have put in tremendous time and effort to place themselves in the position of receiving the honors they received. On the under card the quarterback responsible for Ruggs III senior receiving yards, Mike Huntley, Jr. will be attending Lane College. Offensive linemen D.J. Thornton and Cordez Bryant will take their talents to Sterling College. Newcomer to Lee, Sam Williams will be attending Northeast Mississippi CC.
The second biggest crowd favorite, Marquis “Bubba” Johnson, will be pulling down passes for the Troy Trojans. The obvious main event of the announcements came from Henry Ruggs III. Henry had cut his choices to Florida State and Alabama in the past few days and had left everybody guessing up to announcement time. In typical Ruggs III fashion, Henry honored his friend Rod Scott in making his announcement. In a brief film Henry began and ended with shots from Rod Scott’s headstone, the closing scene with an Alabama hat resting on the stone.
It is always a great day to be a General, but to day is an exceptional day to be on Ann Street.
It would be a mistake not to mention the coaching staff, faculty, and administration that have allowed these student-athletes to be put in the position they are today. Congratulations to all involved.
It is truly a great day to be a General.
