Multiple Teams · Clean Sweep on Ann Street – Generals and Lady Generals Claim Area Championships

Both the Lee Generals and Lady Generals faced a common foe in trying to capture Area Championships.  Jeff Davis crossed I-85 to try and knock off the #1 ranked boys and the #10 ranked girls.  For the Generals it was an attempt to knock off a good team for the third time and the Lady Generals were attempting to avenge one of their worse losses of the season for a second time.

No Doubt Who is Number One

The Lady Generals wasted no time in showing that, as they had heard during the week, the real fluke was the first meeting with the Lady Vols, not the second.  The Lady Generals jumped out to a quick 21 – 5 first quarter lead and for the most part called off the dogs in the second quarter taking a 35 – 9 halftime lead.  Zippy Broughton dropped a quick 23 points in the first half while sitting part of the second quarter.  In her brief third period stent she chose to get her teammates going handing out several dazzling assists.  She also threw in seven steals along the way.  De’Asia Marsh added eight points, Gail Whiting eight points and T’Erra Lee and A’Jae Nathan contributed seven points each.  The Lady Generals will now advance to the Acadome and face either Auburn or Central Phenix City.

The Generals on the other hand went after their third win over Jeff Davis for the year.  Similar to the Lady Generals the Generals jumped out to a quick lead allowing the Vols two free throws in the first quarter.  As expected, the Vols kept pecking away at the lead and after Coach Johnson received a technical foul for an infraction that was mild compared to the way he teaches Economics, the game became somewhat uncomfortable.  Not always a Lee High School strong suit, the Generals hit eight of 12 free throws in the 4th quarter to seal the deal.  The Generals were led in scoring by Henry Ruggs III with 16 and was matched by Jon’Datric Butler with 16, all in the second half.  As with the Lady Generals the Generals will face either Auburn or Central Phenix City at the Acadome next Thursday.

Overall…a great day to be on the north side of I-85.

GO GENERALS!
