A preview of the 2017 version of the Lee Generals football program will be on display Friday night when the travel to Troy to face Charles Henderson. The Generals have put in a few weeks of hard work and it’s time to hit a team with a different color on.
Lee has got some massive skilled position players to replace on the offensive side of the ball. Aside from returning running backs Landry Little, Tedarrian Murray, and Cladarius Pickett (returning from an early season broken ankle), the Generals are looking to replace a quarterback and the most talented set of receivers in the state. On the positive side Lee should have one of the best offensive lines, player-for-player, in the area. If the younger Generals can step up in the needed positions it could be another exciting year on the scoreboard.
Defensively the Generals may have lost several key players but are already seeing some new talent pop up. The defensive backfield boasts two highly thought of players in JaKorey Hawkins (passing the 20 scholarship offers area) and Edward Johnson (receiving his share of offers also). All around athlete Kevontae Ruggs (again offers from all over the country) should step up at linebacker, and will see some receiver responsibilities, will be surrounded by players who saw plenty of action last year. A few transfer players from north and south Alabama should also help plug some of the holes.
It is good to get back to football and with a biased opinion, we have the best coaching staff in the state, Lee should look forward to another exciting year on the gridiron.
