Time is counting down and the practices are few before Lee Nation gets to see the Generals in action. They will kick off the season at Hornet Stadium Friday, August 24th against the Thunderbirds of Park Crossing. This will be the third year of city teams opening on the ASU campus and the setting is perfect to open the year. The folks from Ann Street, like many teams in the city, will be looking to fill some big shoes on both sides of the ball.
Offensively there will be question marks from one sideline to the other. As has been the case under Coach Rogers time at Lee this seems to be the norm rather than unusual. Every year they have had to reload and when all is said and done Coach and his staff have found a way to put a fun and more important, competitive, team on the field. Last years last week move of a wide receiver to QB proves they are not afraid to try anything.
There is one thing for certain, Lee will trot out an extremely large front five that with the exception of one are very young. If they learn fast on the job they will be blocking for a deep running back group that is probably the most experienced part of the entire team. If even the slightest holes are there this group will put up some impressive numbers.
Defensively there are a few veterans returning upfront but Coach Saintfort will once again have to work his magic as most of his defensive backfield have left with D1 scholarships. Much like the offense, Coach Rogers is very capable of finding the right athletes to put in the right places to make things work. It will certainly be exciting to see what takes place on Ann Street.
Everybody get ready, put on your red and white and be in place for the kickoff of the 2018 version of the Lee Generals.
